Managing Director & Executive Director
Dato' Teng Chee Wai is the founder of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”). Over the past few decades, he has built the Company to be the fastest growing independent investment management house in Malaysia with RM88 billion in assets under administration as at 31 March 2025. 

In his capacity as Managing Director & Executive Director, Teng manages the overall business and strategic direction as well as the management of the investment team. His hands-on approach sees him actively involved in investments, product development and marketing. Teng's critical leadership and regular participation in reviewing and assessing strategies and performance has been pivotal in allowing the Company to successfully navigate the economically turbulent environment.

Teng's investment management experience spans more than 30 years, and his key area of expertise is in managing absolute return mandates for insurance assets and investment-linked funds in both Singapore and Malaysia. In addition, Teng is also the Director of Bintang Capital Partners Berhad, AHAM Capital's Private Equity subsidiary.

Prior to his current appointments, he was the Assistant General Manager (Investment) of Overseas Assurance Corporation (OAC) and was responsible for the investment function of the Group Overseas Assurance Corporation Ltd. 

Teng began his career in the financial industry as an Investment Manager with NTUC Income, Singapore. He is a Bachelor of Science graduate from the National University of Singapore and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Studies from City University in London.
JOHAN ROZALI-WATHOOTH FCA, CFA
Deputy Managing Director
Johan Rozali-Wathooth is the Deputy Managing Director of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”), the parent company of Bintang Capital Partners Berhad (“Bintang”), a Malaysian impact investing firm.

He founded AHAM Capital’s Private Equity Department in 2016, which was later spun off as Bintang in 2018. Johan currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director and founding shareholder of Bintang.

Prior to joining AHAM Capital, Johan served with Affin Investment Bank Berhad which he joined in 2012. He played a key role in leading the merger between Affin Investment Banking Group and Hwang DBS Investment Banking Group in 2014, culminating in the creation of the Affin Hwang Capital Group.

Johan has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry spanning roles in corporate restructuring and alternative investments. He spent more than a decade in buy-side investing, having served with HSBC Group in Kuala Lumpur and previously with global investment firms whilst based in London including HIG Capital, Highland Capital Management, and Barings Europe. He began his career in the Corporate Restructuring division of Arthur Andersen (later Ernst & Young) in London in 2001.

Apart from serving as a representative director on Bintang's portfolio companies’ boards, Johan also serves as Chairman of TMK Chemical Berhad (a leading public-listed Southeast Asian chemical products provider) and Chairman of Wise Payments Malaysia Sdn Bhd (the wholly owned Malaysian subsidiary of Wise PLC). He is also Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Active Force Security Services Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian security solutions provider.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a Commonwealth Chevening Scholar. He is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholder. Johan also holds the Sustainable Investing Certificate under the CFA Institute, and the Impact Investing Certificate under the CFA Society UK.

Beyond his professional interests, Johan is a passionate advocate for impact-driven causes. He serves as a Trustee of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (a scholarship provider under the Ministry of National Unity, Malaysia), Treasurer of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (a charitable association which works closely with Malaysia's Ministry of Health to support leprosy patients and their families), and Trustee of Impact Integrated (an agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia focused on empowering youth through esports and media).
DAVID NG, CFA
Deputy Managing Director/Chief Investment Officer
David Ng joined AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) in 2002 as Head of Equities and assumed the role of Chief Investment Officer in September 2006. In January 2018, he was made Deputy Managing Director, while retaining his position and responsibility as Chief Investment Officer. He personifies the investment-led culture of the firm.

David has been responsible for successfully steering client portfolios through different market cycles including periods punctuated by periods of significant volatility and uncertainty. His astute and decisive guidance has allowed the Company to remain ahead of its peers. Under his foresight and vision, the team has evolved from having a domestic focus to one with regional investment capabilities and corresponding track record. 

The investment team’s search for alpha is centred around an absolute return investment philosophy. He encourages his team to have a 360-degree perspective by focusing not only on finding good ideas, but keeping their ears on the ground and their eyes to the world as well as being forward-looking.

He graduated with a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Law from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia; and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholder. He started his career at a large law firm before venturing into fund management with a local bank-backed fund management house in 1998.
CHONG LEE CHOO
Chief Operating Officer
Chong Lee Choo is the Chief Operating Officer of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”), where she drives the strategic planning, execution and administration of the company’s business, operational and fiscal objectives. Her role spans across major functions including Finance, Operations, Business Support and Innovation.

Lee Choo's journey with AHAM Capital began in 2014 when she joined as the Unit Head of Product Development & Management. She then transitioned to the role of Director of the Innovation Lab in 2018. During her tenure, Lee Choo played an instrumental role in launching Malaysia’s first Shariah-compliant Gold ETF and driving the company’s digital transformation initiatives.

Before joining AHAM Capital, Lee Choo began her career with Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia where she managed the product and marketing strategies for a range of wealth products, including Unit Trusts, Retail Bonds, and Structured Products. She further honed her expertise in product development and management at Alliance Bank.

Lee Choo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (Hons) from the National University of Malaysia.
SHAHRIN SHAIKH MOHD
Chief Compliance, Risk & Legal Officer
Shahrin Shaikh Mohd joined AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) as the Chief Compliance, Risk and Legal officer in January 2012 and brings with him more than 25 years of experience in the fund management, unit trusts and capital market regulatory framework. He is entrusted by the Board and Managing Director of the Company to supervise the overall implementation and communication of risk governance and compliance framework on top of overseeing legal matters, anti-money laundering initiatives, anti-bribery initiatives and risk management for the company.

Shahrin began his career with the Securities Commission Malaysia where he spent more than 15 years in various capacities covering multiple areas such as reviewing corporate proposals (which includes Initial Public Offering, acquisitions, rights issues, unit trusts); review and development of policies and guidelines; as well as supervision and examination of unit trusts and fund management companies.

Shahrin’s experience include a stint at the Capital Market Authority of Saudi Arabia (CMA) where he acted as a consultant to the CMA in reviewing and enhancing the mutual funds regulatory framework in Saudi Arabia. Shahrin graduated with a double major in Accounting and Financial Analysis from the University of Warwick, England and also holds an AML certification with a distinction from Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB).
ALLEN WOO
Chief Technology Officer
Allen Woo is the Chief Technology Officer of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”). He oversees the Information Technology and Office Administration department.

Allen’s responsibilities encompass spearheading new technology initiatives and discovering approaches to reap synergies within the company. In addition, he is responsible for embedding a culture of innovation within the company by promoting organisational flexibility.

Formerly the Chief Operating Officer of Hwang DBS, Allen brings with him over 20 years’ of experience in the planning, administration of financial controls, and managing commercial operations across banking, manufacturing, chemical and IT industries in the Asia Pacific Region. He is responsible for successful implementation of programmes that have realised tangible business benefits.

Allen is a Chartered Management accountant and holds a MSc in Computing from the University of DeMontfort, UK.
VINCENT SIAU
Chief Sales Officer, AHAM Wealth Partners
Vincent was appointed Chief Sales Officer of AHAM Wealth Partners on 1 January 2023. In this role, he is responsible for driving the division’s strategic growth by developing and executing key initiatives to expand the firm’s wealth management business. With a focus on enhancing distribution networks and strengthening client relationships, he plays a pivotal role in advancing the company’s objectives within the Wealth Partners division.

Joining the company as a Client Portfolio Manager in 2006, he was promoted to Head of Unit Trust Consultant in 2007, where he was responsible for developing its agency business. In 2008, he was re-designated as Head of Institutional Business, before assuming the role of Head of Retail and Partnership Business in 2014, where he built the company’s agency and expanded its IUTA and CUTA platform businesses, as well as the direct retail sales team.

In 2015, he was appointed as Chief Sales Officer, overseeing all sales channels, including institutional, retail, and partnerships. In 2017, he was then re-designated as Chief Sales & Regional Officer, where he continued to oversee the Institution, Corporate & HNWI Business, Regional Business, Partnership Business, and Private Retirement Scheme.

He began his career in 1996 at Phileo Allied Bank, specialising in share trading services, where he managed trading accounts, share margin facilities, and order execution while providing client support. He was later headhunted by Public Bank to establish a share trading centre for its branches before being transferred to the main branch in Johor Bahru to lead the share investment business, which grew into one of the bank’s top-performing branches.

Vincent studied and is trained in the field of management accounting and marketing, has over 20 years of experience in financial services industry, specifically in share trading and investment account servicing. He is a Capital Markets Services Representative’s Licence (“CMSRL”) holder for fund management, a Shariah Registered Financial Planner (“RFP”) and a Certified Financial Planner.
ESTHER THYE
Chief Officer
Esther has more than 21 years of experience in marketing and sales, primarily in the financial services industry. She has been with AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) for over 15 years. She is responsible to lead, develop and grow the Personal Wealth Business team, build the asset size and profitability, as well as to align sales objectives with firm business strategy. In addition to heading the retail sales team, Esther is also responsible to manage the Customer Service, Contact Centre, as well as the Client Experience teams.

Prior to joining Hwang Investment Management in 2005, Esther has previously worked in various local and international asset management companies.

Esther is an Associate Financial Practitioner (AFP) who holds an advanced Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
CHAN AI MEI
Chief Distribution Officer, Financial Intermediary, Digital & PRS
Chan Ai Mei is the Chief Officer, Intermediary Distribution and PRS of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”). In her capacity as Chief Officer, she is responsible for the overall management and development of intermediary distribution, PRS as well as to oversee the distribution of funds through the Financial Institutional channel.

She joined the company as the Head of Financial Institutional business in 2010 and assumed the role of Chief Marketing Officer in 2014. She was re-designated to her current role in 2017.

During her stint as the Head of Financial Institutional Distribution, she was responsible for overseeing and driving the growth of third-party distribution channels for AHAM Capital and developing a team that services the financial institutions and business partnership teams that distribute our products.

Prior to her role at AHAM Capital, she was with Standard Chartered Bank for five (5) years where she was involved in the Wealth Management business driving sales of investment products as well as leading a team of Investment Consultants. She also spent close to seven (7) years in Citibank as a Personal Banker and subsequently managed a team.

She graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Marketing) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and is also a Certified Financial Planner.
ANTON TAN
Chief Officer, Product Solutions
Anton is the Chief Officer, Product Solutions of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”). In his current capacity, Anton is responsible for overall product development as well as driving the wealth and advisory business. He joined the Company in 2015 as the Head of Wealth & Advisory.

Anton brings with him decades of experience in the financial services and capital market industry, where he was attached to the Investment Research team of a multi-national banking corporation. He also spent close to six (6) years in a local bank as the Senior Manager of Investment Products where he was responsible to drive the bank’s product strategies and recommendations to clients covering Unit Trust and Structured Products.

Anton is a Capital Markets Services Representative’s License (CMSRL) holder.
GAN ENG PENG
Chief Officer, Equity
Gan Eng Peng joined AHAM Asset Management Berhad ("AHAM Capital") in April 2008 as Head of Equities, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in regional and local equities investment, corporate finance and business management. His high-conviction, bottom-up approach to stock pickling that emphasises strong business models with quality management combined with the need for yearly income generation has gained a strong industry following.

He is known for his clear, concise articulation of his investment ideas. He is the portfolio manager for AHAM Capital's world-class Select Asia Quantum Fund (a small-cap Asian Equity strategy) as well as the company's first flagship fund, the Select Opportunity Fund. His previous role as a Senior Director, Equity was to devote his time to finding new ideas, in addition to maintaining portfolio management responsibilities. 

Prior to joining the Company, Gan was Head of Equities of Investments at Pacific Mutual Fund Berhad where he led an experienced fund management team. Gan has overall responsibility for all their funds across the board. His role involved being responsible for all equity fund performance. research initiatives and providing marketing support. 

Gan graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Industrial and Business Economics) from the London School of Economics, England (1992). 
ESTHER TEO, CFA
Deputy Managing Director/Chief Fixed Income Officer
Esther Teo is the Deputy Managing Director and Chief Fixed Income Officer of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”). Since joining the firm in 2004 as a portfolio manager, she has been instrumental in managing institutional and unit trust fixed income portfolios, and expanding the firm’s investment capabilities to include managing domestic, Asian, global, and ESG fixed income strategies. Under her leadership, AHAM Capital’s fixed income funds have consistently ranked among Malaysia’s top performers. Recognized by The Asset as one of Malaysia’s most astute investors, she has earned accolades for her expertise in both Malaysian Ringgit bonds and Asian G3 currency bonds.

Beyond investment management, Esther plays a critical role in advancing the firm’s sustainability and corporate responsibility agenda. She serves as Chairperson of the AHAM Group Sustainable Management Committee (GSMC) and is a member of the AHAM Capital Sustainability Investment Committee. She is responsible for overseeing the firm’s ESG corporate strategy and policies, ensuring the seamless integration of ESG considerations into the investment process. Additionally, she leads the firm’s Corporate & Community Relations initiatives, guiding efforts in financial literacy, education, and environmental impact projects as part of AHAM Capital’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment.

In 2025, Esther was appointed Deputy Managing Director, broadening her leadership role to drive the firm’s strategic initiatives. In this expanded capacity, she oversees and integrates efforts across Product Solutions, Institutions, Corporate and High Net Worth, and Public Sector Business, supporting the firm’s long-term growth and positioning AHAM Capital as a leading asset manager.

Prior to joining AHAM Capital, Esther was a portfolio manager in RHB Asset Management. She began her career in financial advisory at KPMG Malaysia in 1999, specializing in corporate debt restructuring and recovery.

Esther holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Melbourne. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds the CFA ESG Certification.

EDMUND YAP

Senior Director, Institution, Corporate & HNWI Business
Edmund Yap is the Senior Director of Institution, Corporate and HNWI Business of AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”), where he is responsible for formulating and driving growth of the Institution, Corporate & HNI Business segment of the Company. Edmund joined AHAM Capital as a Client Portfolio Manager in 2006, and subsequently being promoted to lead the Institution, Corporate & HNWI Business in January 2024. His responsibilities encompass expanding market share and enhancing business relationships, as well as fostering talent development within the team.

Edmund started his professional career in the wealth management divisions of Citibank Malaysia and K&N Kenanga Berhad (now known as Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad), where he undertook pivotal roles in business development initiatives.

Edmund holds a Bachelor of Business in Finance & IT from University of Technology, Sydney.
AMRAN ZAKI
Senior Director, Public Sector Business
Amran Zaki Mohd Nasir is the Senior Director of Public Sector Business at AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) since June 2017. He is responsible to develop and promote Islamic and conventional fund management services and products to government-linked companies, public section institutions segment.

Previously, he was a Manager at the MIFC Promotions Unit at Bank Negara Malaysia from August 2011 to May 2017, overseeing development and promotion of Shariah-compliant foreign currency mandates to Islamic fund management companies under the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (“MIFC”) initiative.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA in 1998 and is a Capital Markets Services Representative’s License (“CMSRL”) holder for fund management.

Over the past decade, he has built the Company to be the fastest growing and only independent investment management house in Malaysia’s top three, with an excess of RM47 billion in assets under management as at 31 December 2018.​
